Volunteering at First Hattiesburg is one simple and rewarding way to use the gifts and talents that God has uniquely given you.

Below are a few key areas where we are always looking for people to volunteer their time and talents.

Guest Services

Host Team

  • Serve at the Welcome Centers on Sunday mornings to provide information about First to guests.
  • Serve 1-4 Sundays/month.  (It’s up to you!)
  • 9:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.

Usher Team

  • Guide people to nearest available seat in worship center.  Take up offering.
  • Serve every Sunday, during the worship service
  • 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. and/or 10:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Parking Team

  • Welcome and direct guests to parking places.  Keep traffic flowing smoothly.  Transport people to and from parking lot in golf carts.
  • Work 1-4 Sundays/month.  (It’s up to you!)
  • 8:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.

Greeters Team

  • Welcome guests on Sunday mornings.
  • Sunday School classes serve as Greeters one Sunday/quarter.
  • 9:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.

White Glove Team

  • Straighten up worship center before each worship service.
  • Set up refreshment rooms for volunteers, worship team on Sunday mornings.
  • Serve 1-4 time each month.  (It’s up to you.)
  • 8:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. and again between services, 10:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Caffeine Team

  • Make coffee and set up coffee stations on Sunday mornings.
  • Serve 1-4 times each month.  (It’s up to you.)

Dinner Team

  • Volunteers serve dinner Wednesday nights during Family Nights @ First
  • Dinner is served every Wednesday night.
  • Volunteers serve 1-4 times each month.

Production Team

Stage Direction

  • Assisting with stage needs during rehearsals and services
  • No experience necessary.  Training is available.
  • Serves 1-4 sundays a month.  (it is up to you!)
  • 6:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
  • 6;30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Front of House Sound Engineer

  • Runs audio console during services and rehearsals.
  • Experience prefered.

Monitor Engineer

  • Operates lights/lighting console during worship services.

Camera Operators

  • Operate TV cameras during worship services

Graphics Computer Operators

  • Run the graphics computer program responsible for what you see on the big screen during worship
  • Serve 1-4 Sundays each month.  (It’s up to you!)

Video Director

  • Directs Video Team regarding what is shown on screens during worship services

Creative Arts Team

Worship Band

  • Play in the worship services on Sunday mornings.
  • Selection is by audition only.
  • Band members play 1-4 times each month.  (It’s up to you!)
  • Rehearsals every Thursday evening, 6:00-7:30pm.
  • 7:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Sundays.

Photographers

  • Take photos to be used in worship services, ministry activities, communication pieces, etc…
  • No regular schedule.  Photographers will be called upon as needed.

Graphic Artists

  • Design graphic art pieces for bulletins, brochures, etc…
  • Serve as needed, usually once every 4-8 weeks.
  • Experience in graphic art necessary.

Prayer Team
Meets together on Sunday mornings during the worship services.
Prays specifically for everyone involved in leading worship.
Prays specifically that God will move powerfully that day in worship.
Pray-ers can pray during either service, or both.  (It’s up to you!)
Prayer Team will meet every week.  Pray-ers serve 1-4 Sundays each month.  (Again, it’s up to you!)

First Connections Team

Bible Study (Sunday School) Workers

  • Work with infants – kindergarten on Sunday mornings.
  • A variety of jobs available – storytellers, greeters, childcare, etc…
  • Preschool Bible Study meets every Sunday morning, 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Helping Hands

  • Helping Hands is our extended childcare for preschoolers during the 11:00 hour.
  • Helping Hands cares for preschoolers ages birth-prekindergarten.
  • Helping Hands volunteers serve on a rotating basis, once/quarter.

Backyard Buddies

  • Backyard Buddies is our Wednesday evening program for preschoolers, 3 yrs old – kindergarten.

Children’s Ministry

  • Backyard Kids is our Wednesday evening program for children 1st-5th grades.
  • There are a wide variety of needs – music, teaching, crafts, refreshments, recreation, etc…

The Edge

  • The Edge is our Wednesday evening program for 6th graders.

Bible Drill

  • Train children 4th-6th grades to use the Bible.
  • Bible Drill meets every Sunday afternoon, 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Youth Ministry

Impact Connections Team

  • Wednesday nights at Impact
  • Time Commitment: 5:30 p.m. – 6:45 p.m.
  • Age Requirements: age 18 and up
  • Parking Lot/Door Greeters – welcome students as they arrive
  • Welcome Desk – greet students, distribute name tags, get guest information, and partner new students with a Fusion team member

Fusion Team

  • Wednesday nights at Impact
  • Time Commitment: 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
  • Age Requirements: ages 12-18
  • These students will host any first time guests for the evening, introducing them and connecting them to other students and leadership throughout the night.

Cookie Outreach Team

  • Thursday nights on a per need basis
  • Time Commitment: 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
  • Age Requirements: ages 12 and up (must have some means of transportation)
  • This team will deliver cookies to any first time guests from Impact and Sunday Bible Study.

Cafe Team

  • Wednesday nights
  • Time Commitment: 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
  • Age Requirements: ages 16 and up
  • This team will serve snacks and drinks in the cafe.

Impact Media Team

  • Wednesday nights at Impact
  • Time Commitment: 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
  • Age Requirements: ages 14 and up
  • This team will assist with sound, lighting, and media needs each week.

Special Ops Team

  • Wednesday nights at Impact
  • Time Commitment: 6:00 p.m. – 6:20 pm, 7:30 p.m. – 7:45 p.m.

Youth Ministry Prayer Team

  • Wednesday nights
  • Time Commitment: 5:45 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.
  • Age Requirements: age 12 and up
  • This team will pray for prayer requests received through the Youth Ministry Prayer Box and pray for our Wednesday night Impact.

  • Time Commitment: 6:15 p.m. – 7:45 p.m.
  • Age Requirements: college age and up
  • This leadership team will develop relationships with our high school and middle school students.  They will also help facilitate Impact by participating with students in worship, small groups, and games.

Sunday Connections Team

  • Sunday mornings
  • Time Commitment: 10:45 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.
  • Age Requirements: college age and up
  • This team will greet students, distribute name tags, and get guest information as students come to Bible Study.

Sunday Small Group Leaders

  • Sunday mornings
  • Time Commitment: 10:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
  • Age Requirements: college age and up
  • Other Requirements: Small group leaders will need to go through an interview and screening process with the Youth Ministry Staff.
  • These leaders will develop relationships with our middle school and high school students in a small group setting.  Their responsibilities will include weekly contacts, scheduling small group events, and leading discussion during Bible Study time.  Some minor preparation time will be required each week, however a lead teacher will guide you through the Bible Study time.

Backstage Tours

  • Beginning Sunday mornings in October at Lincoln Road Campus
  • Time Commitment: 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 p.m.
  • Age Requirements: college age and up
  • If you love to meet new people and don’t mind talking, we are looking for people who can convey the sense of excitement we have about what God is doing at First.  You will lead guests on a backstage tour of the First Hattiesburg facilities and ministries in action.

Adult Bible Study Leader

  • Oversees and leads a weekly Adult Bible Study.
  • Adult Bible Studies meet Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings
  • Time require is one hour each week, plus preparation time.

First Family Connector

  • Help new members make a connection with First by helping them find a small group and a place to serve.
