Life Story
I grew up in Indianola, MS, which is better known as the Delta. I was raised Baptist by two wonderful parents, however church was not a priority. God blessed me greatly with two amazing friends, that invited me to youth group with them where I gave my life to Christ. Upon high school graduation, I attended Delta State University, where I received a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. I then relocated to Hattiesburg to obtain my Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1993. During this time, I met my husband, John, and in 1995 we married. I worked at the University Medical Center in Jackson, MS as a Pediatric Social Worker, South Mississippi Children Shelter as a Counselor, and Pine Belt Mental Healthcare as a Day Treatment Specialist, before returning home to take care of my son, Austin, who was born in 2000.
My family began attending First Hattiesburg and became members in 2002. My work at First Hattiesburg began as a volunteer for Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. My passion for children continued to grow during this time, and shortly after I began working part time for Mother’s Day Out, and the Discovery Preschool Program. I am so thankful God has led my family to this church. As the Preschool Associate, I feel God has blessed me with the opportunity to work with children and still be able to spend time with my family.
Vision
My vision for First Hattiesburg is not about the big “new” building we will be blessed to have or the people it will attract, but the environment it will create for our preschoolers that are excited to be in the House of the Lord. As the Preschool Associate, I am dedicated to leading our preschooler’s to know, love, and follow Jesus. Mark 10:14 reads “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”
